Digital Reading Dream Come True : Sony Reader Touch Edition - Red (PRS650RC)
I have had my PRS 650 for about a month now. I previously owned a PRS 300 and was very happy with the product, even with it being a basic ereader. As I started searching the market for an upgrade, I spent a couple of weeks researching and going to different stores to check out the functionality of the ereaders in the market. I must say that some aspects of the Kindle and the Nook caught my attention, but upon testing the Sony 650 I could not deny that it trully was the best product available. Here is why:
light weight
touch screen is incredibly responsive and user friendly
dictionay
battery life of 2+ weeks (I read everyday for at least 1 hour)
download books from the library
buy books through reader store or any other place that sells epubs or pdfs formats. So you can shop around.
letter sizes
landscape
PDF files
MP3 capabilities (I can do audio books as well as music- have not used function much, but seems to work well)
Notes ( I can hand write my own notes, type and highlight)
The reader store is very user friendly and give direct connection to Google books (free books. yes, free books folks!)
very quick and easy to download books
Memory capability of 50,000 books is amazing. Although not a major concern, as I only carry about 30 o 50 books in the reader at a time. You can keep the books saved to your reader library.
e-ink is also great, it reads like a paper book
No glare!
Why did I not choose the Kindle or the Nook? Well, the Kindle has a wonderful battery life and also seems to be user friendly and has a very nice e-ink display, so it reads like a book as well. I simply did not like how bolky it is and the lack of a touch screen. I also disliked that I would not be able to check out books from the library and that if I wanted to buy a book I was only able to get them from one source. The Nook had a very weak battery life and not a very responsive page turning system. I recently checked out the new color Nook and noticed that the screen has a glare. Also the battery life is its worst yet.
The cons of the sony reader:
I really don't find cons with this product, but some may argue that the lack of WIFI is one. If that is really important to you, consider the prs 950 which is the same thing as this, but a little bigger and has WIFI and 3G capabilities. I personally wanted something that gave me the capability of reading and carrying books without having to deal with the weight of a large book on my wrists. I read at least one book a weeek. I even added the Bible to my reader and it works well enough.
It is a little pricey, but it is a very durable product. I did not have any problems with my first Sony reader and so far I have not had any problems with my current one. It has never froze or done anything that I did not ask it to do.
